Border City Study

After earning a spot in the first group of Global Learning Research Fellows, Ashley developed her research within her project: "Economic Development of International Border Cities: El Paso Case Study." Through this project, she researched the parallels between the development and history of Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, Texas regarding economics and culture. Furthermore, Ashley compiled statistics of production, investment, corporate presence, education, income, cost of living, and demographics in the region. At such a volatile period in time at the border, this project demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the US and Mexico and the future of border cities. Although borders create concrete divides, cases such as El Paso and Ciudad Juarez demonstrate the nuance of the conversations regarding border crossings and immigration as a whole.
